Largo de Camões or Praça de Luis de Camões
This square in front of Hotel do Bairro Alto marks the transition between Chiado and Bairro Alto. In the centre of the square is a statue built in 1867 of the great Portuguese poet Luís de Camões. Under Camões are the statues of eight other great names from Portuguese literature: Pedro Nunes, Fernão Lopes, Azurara, Castanheda, João de Barros, Sá Menezes, Jerónimo Corte-Real and Vasco Quevedo Castello-Branco
