Wines: the best shopping spots in Lisbon

Delidelux

Everyone enjoys wine in a different way, but a combination of colours, smells, appearance, taste, texture, ritual, tradition and culture attracts people to wine. Portugal has had vineyards since the Roman times, and has since then perfected the production of wine, learning how to blend tradition and modernity, nature and man’s imagination in a perfect way. Portuguese gastronomy is delicious and the selection of wines are just as great. Shopping for wines is sometimes not an easy task. But some shops around Lisbon have made a careful selection of the best wines in Portugal and have an interesting concept. Enjoy shopping for wines in Lisbon.

Portugal is famous for its Port and Madeira wines, fortified and sweet. But Portuguese DOC wines (from a demarcated wine region) have gained a world-wide fame for their excellent quality. To shop for these wines can be a truly great experience as the choice of wine is made difficult due to the immense choice of top-quality wines. Around Lisbon there are a few shops, some specialised in wine selling, others in a wide range of gourmet and exclusive products. We suggest some of the best shops around Lisbon to buy these nature’s delights: Portuguese wines.

Remember that airport control now limits everyone to transporting liquids in 100ml containers, which would mean that you would have to pack the bottles into the luggage you check-in.

BAIXA/CHIADO

Mercearia Meio da PraçaMeio da Praça

All the wines here have been carefully picked out. The criteria has been based on quality, and the wines have been maintained at a good pricing. The spirit of the house is exactly this: allow young people to drink great wines, therefore maintain the prices low so that everyone can purchase them. The other products will remind most Portuguese of their childhood, due to the vintage-style labels, or the typical brands that used to fill the kitchen storage room. The majority of the products are national. This grocery store is a great way to get closer to the Portuguese table culture.

To the surprise of the local community at Bairro Alto, the Pérola das Gáveas they always went to for their household goods had changed, although it maintained its name, address and former image. The wines here are not widely known, as the owners have tried to differentiate themselves from the offers at great supermarkets. This helped to choose only the best in the market from prices that vary from 3€ to 40€. The selection includes wines also thought out to go with the other products on sale, like the cheeses, risottos and chocolates.
