This convent was founded in 1389 by Nuno Álvares Pereira and was initially occupied by Carmelite monks from Moura. It was the main gothic church in Lisbon, but turned to ruins in the destructive 1755 earthquake and was never rebuilt. Today, the ruins are home to the Carmo Archeological Museum.
