The Palácio de Mafra (Mafra Palace) was built by D. João V, the Mafra Convent is the most important Portuguese Baroque monument. The palace holds one of the most important Portuguese libraries, with around 40,000 books and numerous art works brought in from France, Flanders and Italy.
