The inauguration of the Salazar Bridge or Tagus River Bridge, as it was called then, was on the 6th August 1966. After the 25th April (1974) revolution, the symbols of the fascist government were not used any more and the bridge was given the name of said revolution: Ponte 25 de Abril.
